    Different guy.

Thank you Baze. I'm looking forward to playing with this team. They look pretty good. The only lacking component looks to be the relief pitchers.

Mookie Lifts Red Sox on Opening Day
Cy Young Winner Rick Porcello Notches Strike Out #1,000

The Boston Red Sox got off to a quick start in the 2017 campaign against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Largely due to the efforts of last year's Cy Young Winner Rick Porcello and Mookie Betts, last year's AL MVP runner-up. The Red Sox belted out 5 home runs in a lopsided 9-1 victory on Opening Day at Fenway Park.

Mookie Betts started off the scoring with a home run into the stands on the Green Monster in the bottom of the first inning. That momentum allowed for the Red Sox to score 8 more runs. This also included home runs from Mitch Moreland, Dustin Pedroia, Hanley Ramirez, and another home run by Mookie Betts. Ramirez's home run was a tape measure shot at 470 ft.

Rick Porcello got his first start after being awarded the 2016 American League Cy Young Award. Porcello pitched a solid 7 innings giving up 7 hits and only one run in route to his first win of the season. Porcello also struck out 8 batters to put him over 1,000 strike outs for his career, joining a club of about 500 players in MLB history.

"It is always great to see an accomplishment like that in someone's career," Red Sox manager John Farrell said about Porcello's milestone.

David Freese was the only Pittsburgh Pirate of note. He scored the only run for the Pirates on a solo home run on to the Green Monster. Pitcher Gerrit Cole was looking to recover from a disappointing 7-10 season last year but only lasted 3 innings. He gave up 6 hits, 4 runs, 2 base on balls while striking out only two batters in his short outing.

Newcomer Chris Sale (17-10, 3.34 ERA in 2016) will take the hill for Boston against Ivan Nova (12-8, 4.17 ERA in 2016) after a day of rest.

Nice to see you get the win, especially in such dominant fashion.
