Kid isn't gonna go anywhere good if he doesn't start throwing the ball more.

    FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Glenbard West thumps top seed Aurora

    posted Nov 5, 2012

THIEN NGUYEN SCORES AND DARRENN PAWLIKOWSKI CELEBRATES

BILLY WILSON FINDS THE ENDZONE, PAWLIKOWSKI FIRES A PASS

WILSON SCORES AGAIN, ALEX HOWELL KNEELS AFTER A LONG FOURTH QUARTER SCORE.

Glenbard West suffered a pair of losses during the regular season, meaning they would be on the road for the majority of the playoffs. They faced their first test yesterday when they went on the road and faced previously unbeaten top seed Aurora.

Aurora started things off quickly when they returned Glenbard West's first punt 88 yards for a score. After another Glenbard West punt Aurora put together a long drive and made it 14-0 with a Bryce Davis six yard touchdown run on the final play of the first quarter.

"Coach just kept saying there was a bunch of game left and to keep fighting." Tight End Michael Weisbecker explained later. "We knew it wasn’t over. Wasn’t close to over."

He was right, it wasn’t even close to over with one quarter down and Aurora up 14-0.

Glenbard West scored midway through the second quarter on a 13 yard Darrenn Pawlikowski to Thien Nguyen touchdown pass and at the break it was 14-7 Aurora.

"Coach made some great adjustments at halftime." Fullback Narayan Glick said after the game. "He lit a fire for sure."

Whatever coach Chad Hetlet did or said at the break completely changed the game.

Glenbard West would score 28 unanswered points in the second half to go on to a 35-14 win.

Second half scores came via two third quarter Pawlikowski touchdown passes, both to Billy Wilson.

Pawlikowski added a fourth touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, connecting with Alex Howell for a 41 yard score.

Narayan Glick capped scoring with a 19 yard touchdown run.

"It looked like a totally different team in the second half." One Glenbard West fan said.

Pawlikowski had one of his top passing games of the year, completing 14 of 16 pass attempts for 182 yards and a career high four touchdown passes. He did not score a rushing touchdown for the first time this season, aside from the games he missed due to an injury.

After toppling the number one seed Glenbard West will travel to face second seed Champaign next week. Champaign finished 9-1 with their only loss coming to Aurora by three points in the first game of the season.

"We're very interested in you. We love that you want to play quarterback and we know you can at the next level."

"I believe I can too sir."

"We feel like you would be a great fit and we know you've expressed an interest in staying in the area."

"Yes. I'd like to stay somewhat close to home."

"That's great. We'd really like to have you. We think you could be a great addition to our team as we look to get to the next level."

"I really appreciate it sir and you're definitely near the top of my list. I really appreciate you coming out again."

Darrenn shook the man's hand and showed him to the door. He couldn't help but get excited at the prospect of going there. A smile crept onto his face as he closed the door and headed back inside.

    FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS
Glenbard West shuts out Champaign, heads to State Championship

    posted Nov 11, 2012

DARRENN PAWLIKOWSKI BEATS THE DEFENSE TO THE ENDZONE, GEO SARRIA FINDS THE ENDZONE

ALEX HOWELL HEADS TO THE ENDZONE, HOWELL SCORES AGAIN

SARRIA SCORES TD NUMBER TWO, MICHAEL WEISBECKER POWERS IN FOR A SCORE

Champaign spent the week leading up to their meeting with Glenbard West on social media, explaining how they weren't going to let Darrenn Pawlikowski run all over their defense and how their own dual threat quarterback, Mychal Gorman, was going to dice up Glenbard West.

    Part of that was true.

Pawlikowski carried the ball a season low 13 times for 98 yards and a score. He did, however, throw for 298 yards and five touchdowns, both career highs.

"We knew they intended on really forcing Darrenn to stay in the pocket and make him try to beat them throwing the ball." Glenbard West head coach Chad Hetlet explained. "We knew he could do it so we adjusted our game plan accordingly."

Pawlikowski had help from his young offensive line, who held a strong Champaign front seven to just one sack in the game.

Offensively, Glenbard West got big games through the air from Geo Sarria, Alex Howell and Michael Weisbecker.

Glenbard West will now face Hoffman Estates, who they defeated by a score of 10-3 early in the season. That game was a battle and Glenbard West just squeaked by. The game took place while Pawlikowski was out with a concussion.

As always the Illinois State Championship will take place at Memorial Stadium in Champaign. Home to the Fighting Illini of the University of Illinois.

"It's pretty exciting for sure." Pawlikowski replied when asked about playing on a big stage. "We're going to try to just treat it like any other game though."

Pawlikowski currently holds a scholarship offer from Illinois. Rivals.com has them at the top of his list.
