    HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL
FORMER BISHOP GORMAN QB TRANSFERS TO JOHN CURTIS

Cody Carter led Bishop Gorman to the state championship after taking over for the injured Anu Solomon

RIVER RIDGE — John Curtis has accepted the transfer of former Bishop Gorman quarterback Cody Carter. Carter took over for Anu Solomon last year when he suffered a season ending injury. Solomon is fully recovered from his injury and Bishop Gorman head coach Tony Sanchez has already named him the starter for 2012.

Carter threw for 2,083 yards, 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions in seven games and led the Gaels to the Nevada state championship. Carter also ran for 563 yards and six touchdowns.

“It's crazy to think that the coach out there would hand the job to the other guy so early.” John Curtis head coach J.T. Curtis told us. “That competition at the quarterback position is priceless. Those guys should thrive on that.”

Carter was listed at 6'5” and 228 pounds on Bishop Gorman's roster last season. He has elite size and arm strength and despite being considered a pocket style quarterback he is still quite nimble and fast and has the ability to do damage with his legs when it is appropriate.

“He's a gifted athlete but you don't see him running to run. He makes his reads and if nothing is there then he runs. He's not a run first guy. He's keeping his eyes up. He's looking down field for a play.” One opposing coach told us over the phone.

Carter is listed as the tenth best “pro-style” quarterback by Rivals.com, a popular prospect ranking site that most experts agree is the most accurate.

“I just wanted to be somewhere where I could play, or at least have a shot to play.” Carter explained. “This is a great program with a great coaching staff and I've been told it's an open competition at quarterback. That's all I can ask for.”

“We're very excited to have Cody here.” Coach Curtis further explained. “He's a proven winner and that experience is invaluable. He's got great size and a great arm, you can't teach that stuff. We saw him make some NFL throws on his tape and his workout was one of the best I've seen in person.”

“It's no problem. I've been looking it over the past few days and I'm about 30% good with it. No classes for a few weeks so I'm good. My goal is to start against St. Paul's.” Carter replied when asked about learning the Patriots playbook in less than a month.

John Curtis will open their season September 1st at St. Paul's in Covington.

“It's exciting. I'm ready.” Carter said with a big smile.

Carter has given a verbal commitment to USC.

I like the Connecticut setting better since I knew where the locations were at. Good luck in Nevada.
