Cody Carter leads green to a win in Tulane's spring game

CODY CARTER THROWS A TD PASS IN THE TULANE SPRING GAME

    New Orleans -
Cody Carter and his green team triumphed over Nick Montana's white squad earlier today in the Tulane spring game by a score of 21-17. Carter played a key role in the win, throwing a pair of touchdown passes and setting up the final score of the game with a long run. Carter was 13 of 17 for 232 yards passing and added 63 yards rushing in the win.

Nick Montana did not fare as well, completing 12 of his 19 pass attempts for 136 yards, a touchdown and a pair of interceptions. Orleans Darkwa scored both of the white team's touchdowns and Cairo Santos added a 36 yard field goal.

Green took an early lead when Carter found Kedrick Banks for a 13 yard score on their second possession.

White bounced right back when Darkwa took a toss 36 yards for a score four plays later.

The defenses held the score there until the third quarter when Carter hit tight end Matt Marfisi for an 11 yards touchdown on a perfectly thrown fade route.

After each team punted Santos made it 14-10 green when he kicked a 36 yard field goal for white.

Early in the fourth quarter white took their first lead when Darkwa scored from six yards out.

After a few more punts by each team green took possession with three minutes left and Carter proceeded to drive them into field goal range before a 23 yard scramble put the ball at the white three yard line and led to a game clinching three yard touchdown run by Rob Kelley.

"It felt really good to play well and I'm proud of the whole team for competing and playing a really good game. I'm looking forward to seeing some other faces on the other side of the ball." Carter said after the game.

Though he wouldn’t say much on the subject of who would be the starting quarterback head coach Curtis Johnson did say that the coaching staff had "learned a lot today".

Tulane opens their regular season on August 29th in the Superdome against Jackson State.

TULANE TOPS JACKSON STATE IN SEASON OPENER

CODY CARTER THROWS HIS FIRST PASS FOR THE WAVE

    New Orleans -
Tulane picked up a season opening 17-0 win over Jackson State earlier today in the Superdome.

Freshman QB Cody Carter threw for 204 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 12 of 15 passing in the win while also rushing for 41 yards on seven attempts. His one mistake came when he forced a pass to tight end Matt Marfisi in the endzone and it was picked off.

Runningback Orleans Darkwa led the Wave with 61 yards rushing on eight carries while Rob Kelley added 44 yards on six carries.

Tulane played the passing game somewhat conservatively with Ryan Grant's two receptions for 72 yards and a score pacing the team. Justyn Shackleford caught two passes for 47 yards and a score as well.

Tulane's defense held Jackson State to just 197 total yards of offense and 3 of 10 on third down.

Tulane will host South Alabama next week.
